Why does Surrey Police Authority hold public meetings?The public meetings of the Authority are an opportunity for all 17 members of the Police Authority, along with officers of the Authority and senior officers and staff from the force to discuss publicly the important issues around policing in Surrey. Members of the public are welcome to attend to find out more about how they are policed, and to put questions to the senior Authority members and police officers in charge of policing.

What happens at Surrey Police Authority meetings? Our meetings usually last around two hours, and cover a range of topics, which change from meeting to meeting. These range from internal Authority business to setting the Council tax precept and policing budget. Members and other contributing staff convene and sit around a board table, with members of the public, journalists and other officials seated separately. The Chairman of the Authority, currently Peter Williams JP, leads the meeting and ensures that business is debated and resolved with focus and in a timely fashion.

When does Surrey Police Authority meet? Surrey Police Authority meets in public seven times a year and the agendas for these meetings are set and published five days in advance. See below for a list of latest dates announced for our meetings.

Why should I attend? Your taxes pay for your policing, and public meetings of the Police Authority are a good opportunity to find out more about how that money is used, and how the Authority oversees the work of the Force to ensure that it conducts its business in an effective and efficient fashion that meets the needs of Surrey people.

If you have any special access requirements, please let us know as soon as you can so that we can make the necessary arrangements. Attendees are able to leave the meeting room at any time, and refreshments are available free of charge for the duration of the meeting.   

Interested in asking a question at a Surrey Police Authority public meeting? Time is given for public questions at the beginning of each meeting. If you would like to submit a question to be answered at the meeting you do not have to attend. You will receive the response in writing following the meeting.
