Setting Surrey Police’s Priorities

Surrey Police Authority is responsible for agreeing the main county-wide priorities for Surrey Police each year.

Arriving at these priorities takes months of detailed work. During that process, we will:

  • Consult with thousands of members of the public in Surrey
  • Consult with other Surrey public bodies (councils, schools, emergency services etc)
  • Seek the professional advice of the Chief Constable
  • Consider the national requirements set out by the Home Secretary
  • Establish the budget & resources available

From all of this information, we will establish the key priorities that the Force should work towards in the year ahead, with a small number of supporting targets. These targets are what we use to assess the performance of the Force and the Chief Constable.

Our Local Policing Plan is the document that sets out these key policing priorities and performance targets for Surrey and reports on our achievements over the past year.
