Consultation during 2006:
During 2006, Surrey Police Authority held twelve Have Your Say Roadshows throughout the county visiting supermarkets, shopping centres, public events and fire stations. In 2006 we invited some of our partners to join us including colleagues from Crimestoppers, Criminal Justice, Independent Custody Visitor Scheme, Fire & Rescue, Independent Advisory Groups, Neighbourhood Watch and Police & Community Partnership Groups. We were also joined by officers from Essex Police Authority and Sussex Police! Our consultation consisted of two sections, the first focusing on nine key aspects under the titles 'Access to Neighbourhood Police Teams', 'Surrey Police' and 'Working with Partners'. The second asked participants to highlight their top three policing priorities from a list of seven.
In October, we conducted a postal survey that was sent out to approximately 1000 partners and stakeholders (community groups, schools, local councillors, voluntary organisations, businesses etc), and we published an electronic copy on our website. The response to this particular strand of consultation was extremely encouraging as we received a 55% return - the highest achieved to date at the Authority.
We also held a Public Forum at Guildford College sponsored by 94.6 Eagle Radio. Our guests, members of the public, were invited to use a 'who wants to be a millionaire' keypad system to vote on their priorities. Assistant Chief Constable Lynne Owens, Inspector Julia Buchan and Authority Chairman Jim Smith all gave presentations and the evening was compered by Head of news at the Eagle, Rob Harris.
